Highland Lakes, Austin Texas

I am going to Austin for a week in March.
How would you plan a couple of days of bass fishing there?

I have never been there.
I am thinking about hiring a guide.

Do any of you guys know the area?
Any tips?
I am use to the the San Diego, CA region, so bassing in Texas will be
much more "user friendly", I do believe.

Maybe I should talk to the locals, rent a boat, and go that route?

SHRED, I would go to www.texasfishingforum.com and post this in the
Bass Fishing section. This is a huge forum, and I am sure you will get
replies from guys local to Austin. I saw a thread a while back where
somebody was trying to catch a bass in every state they could while on
business trips, and quite a few gave him info on a border lake so that
he could get in his fishing without time wasted on site.

The easiest thing to do would be hire a guide. And, during my travels,
based on the rates for renting a boat suitable for fishing, you'll probably
come out ahead hiring the guide when you look at the cost of renting a boat
and buying fuel. You probably wouldn't have to bring any tackle, just buy a
license and show up at the dock, so that would make traveling easier for you
as well.

Plus, who knows, you might get a chance to try some different tactic, lure
or equipment and have something different to try once you get back home.

Shred you got some good advise from others, but you should really go to
Texasfishingforum.com, I am a member and you can get some really good info
there. I live in Dallas, but use to live in Austin. I would recommend Lake
Austin or Town Lake, right in downtown. There is some great fishing and I
always hear of 10 plus fish coming out of there. Go for the guide all our
lakes are extremely low and very dangerous so get somebody that knows the
water.
