Default West Branch Report

Hi Guys,

I still have not gotten a line wet this year, but that is about to
change!!

The boats that have floated by the last few days have reported spotty
success on streamers. The fish are around and mostly following flies,
but not aggressive yet.

There are also some reports of bugs and sporatic rising activity, but
again cold and mostly on the slow side.

That is all about to change.

Weather looks awesome for the next few days. I was actually hoping for
a bit more rain to keep the reservoir spilling, at least until May.

The reservoir will stop spilling today and that means the releases will
also be reduced over the next 3 days.

The West Branch will be down to 400-500 flow at Hale Eddy by Friday!!!
Great wading water and it also means that there will be less cold bottom
water, so the bugs and fish should start to wake up!!

I have seen a few blue quills and little black caddis. IT should be a
great bug year as the rivers were full all winter.

Jim

Thanks for the heads-up, Jim. I'll be sure to zip on over to the West
Branch this weekend.

How do you figure the WB will b edown to 400 - 500 cfs by Friday when
the gage at Hale Eddy right now is about 1800 cfs and 38 degrees? I
have a place on the lower WB and am anxious to go up next Tuesday and
Wednesday if I saw water temperatures at 48 - 50 F on main or LEB.

Hi Wb,

The releases have started.

DRBC has agreed to release a bit more water while the reservoirs are
near full, but you can still expect the releases to continue to drop
the next two days.
