Default IM6 deterioration over time?

Steve,

You've probably been catching too many large fish from the same side (left
side looking downstream) of the river.

Try fishing from the other side for a while and catch some really big ones.

(hee hee hee)

If it still cast OK don't worry about it.

I would say it was from high heat or was that way when it was conceived but
who knows?

Email Winston Rod Company and run it by them.

I was putting away a rod built around 12 years ago and noticed that
the tip section has a curve in it that had not been there the last
time I used the rod. This rod was built from a Winston IM6 blank,
FWIW.
I checked to see if the spline had been positioned wrong, and it's
not. The curve is to the left.
The rod is stored in a tube when not in use, standing on end. The tube
is racked in my den, so it hasn't been exposed to any extreme
temperatures.

What could the cause be? Does IM6 break down over time?

Damn it, I liked this rod.

Have you moved in the last 12 years? If so, was the rod stored in a
container by a shipping company?
If so, it is possible that the rod over heated, like Bill K. mentioned.

I think that's why Bill mentioned it, he knows I'm relatively local,
and it gets into the 100's often in the summer. I was thinking heat
too.

100 degrees shouldn't touch it. I leave my rods in the trunk and back seat
of the car all the time, for month at a time. It gets over100 degree, I
know. I didn't think about that, when I first posted. I don't think it
could get hot enough even in a shipping container to warp it. Though I
could be wrong.

Forget everything I have posted on this subject.

I'm wondering if it was a combination of overheating and the tube sitting so
that the top section was on its tip. Do people pay any attention to how they
store their tubes? On their sides, or with the butt end downward (especially
for the tip section)?

At home mine are always stored with the tube vertical and the tips toward
the ceiling. In the car? however I can fit them in!
