Well, it's not as good as a new ten foot penis in the Seychelles.....or a forty some pound penis on Easter Island.....but it'll do. g. for whom it will have to. |

BTW, as to what the 10wt is for, on my upcoming trip to Andros it will be for throwing lage flies to barracuda. Next time I go to the Seychelles it will be for milkfish. One of these days I'd like to try some offshore fishing for albies, dorado, etc., and I'd really like to catch some large roosterfish. I think your choice just got easier sine I don't think the Z-axis comes in a 10, but I wish it did. A ten is typically considered a Permit rod. There are a 10wt Sage Z-AXIS and a 10wt Sage XI3 wating for me at the fly shop. I'll have to use a cold-water flyline for the cast off in the snow. :-) |

Thanks to everyone (well, nearly everyone) for the input. It's between the Sage Xi3 and the Sage Z-Axis. I'll try them head-to-head. The results: No appreciable difference in casting accuracy and distance. Both are sweet-casting rods. The Z-Axis is MAYBE a bit better for short casts -- hard to tell. The Xi3 is a bit heavier -- 4 5/8 oz vs. 4 1/4 oz. That may translate into more backbone for fighting strong fish. It also has a longer fighting butt. Decision: Xi3. By the way, I like Sage's design ethic. The rods are flawlessly finished, but there are no -- or very little -- non-functional flourishes to make the rods pretty. |
