KEY LARGO - Wind and rain cut the field in the 11th Annual Original
Florida Keys Ladies Dolphin Tournament, sponsored by the Key Largo
Rotary Club, to 163 anglers Saturday, but Linda Lamoureaux, fishing
with Capt. Bill Harbaugh, still managed to bring in a 43.55-pound
dolphin to take top honors.
Michelle Jones took second place with a 34.20-pound mahi-mahi. Third
place honors went to Susan Matthews with a 32.20-pound dolphin.

The normal tournament field of over 200 anglers was cut by the dirth
of last-minute registrations Friday due to bad weather forecasts but
Tournament Director Jim Boilini said the enthusiasm of those who
fished the tournament never wanted.
The Sheraton Beach Resort Key Largo served as tournament headquarters
for the Friday night registration and captain's meeting, the Saturday
night awards banquet and the Sunday morning brunch.
The Sunday morning brunch has been a traditional feature of the
tournament since its inception, setting it aside from other such
events.
Since the tournament began Angler Boats has become a major name
sponsor adding significantly to the money raised each year by the Key
Largo Rotary Club.
Tournament proceeds go to help provide educational benefits to people
of all ages throughout the Upper Keys community.
Instead of just offering scholarships, the Key Largo Rotary Club
provides funds for vocational training, course-by-course financing of
degree programs and other less traditional means of assisting people
in the Upper Keys to improve themselves on the job.
In the 11 years the tournament has been fished, close to a half
million dollars have been raised to provide educational benefits for
local residents, including the donation of a dormitory at the
University of Florida for students who live and study in a cooperative
atmosphere.
The tournament has become the premier ladies fishing classic in the
Keys and over its life has drawn anglers and sponsors from all over
the country. It is traditionally fished on the first weekend in
August.
