Default August in Montana

It's Sunday moroning. I'm drinking coffee.
.....about to jump up and head for the river.
The Sunday paper said "dozens" of mountain roads,
on both forest service and BLM land, that are usually
open for the 4th of July, won't be this year. There is
still too much snow. And were there isn't snow there are
mud bogs.

This is interesting. Late July and August are usually slow
fishing times around here. Flows get low. The water gets warm.
The fish retreat into catatonic hibernation in what little
deep water is left. That late summer tendency has been
the rule, these past ten years of drought.

But this year might be different. Bank-full streams in mid August
is something I've never seen before. And I've been here (in
Montana) since 1975. And spent summers here as a whipper snapper.
August might be a very good time to fish around here.
This summer anyway.

Maybe Sandy's master baiting was a little flaccid...
