Default Swift River Y Pool Access

I'll be fishing the Swift this coming week with my dad (82 y.o. young)
so a lot of walking could be problematic. Is the only access a footpath
from Rt. 9? How is the access on the other side of the bridge? TYIA,
Tom

There is a filtration station about 200 yards east of the Swift River
Bridge on rte 9. There is an access road on the east side of this
building *outside* (I can't emphasize that enough) the marked fence.
You can park in the grass off rte 9, staying clear of the no parking
signs. That access road is straight and level, and is the most direct
route to the Y-Pool. The access road on the West side of the bridge,
(at the parking lot), is level, if you follow the road rather than the
path that follows the river, but is long.

Also bear in mind that the Swift is running right now at 180 CFS, and
dropping very slowly. (about 4 cfs per day) In comparison, the normal
low flow on the river is 36 CFS, and the high flow is 120, so wading
could be problematic as well.

Hi George, thanks very much for the info. I have a few other
questions though.

(1) When was the parking below the dam closed?
(2) How far of a walk is it to the pool along the path? A mile?
(3) How is the access on the other side of the bridge?
(4) Where can I find flow info for the Swift?

Thanks again, Tom P.S. I'm trying to locate the "secret spot".

(1) Sept 12 2001....it will not reopen.

(2) A little more than half a mile.

(3) A little shorter, but a tougher walk. The easiest access is on the
east side of the filtration plant, as I described.

(4) www.water.usgs.gov

re the secret spot....just go below rte 9 and look for the highest
concentration of traffic. I'd be more specific, but I'd have to kill
you, and then commit suicide. {;-)
