Default Call For Votes (CFV): aus.sport.shooting

CALL FOR VOTES
Creation of Unmoderated newsgroup aus.sport.shooting

This is a formal Call For Votes (CFV) for the creation of a new
Australian unmoderated newsgroup aus.sport.shooting. Please see below
for voting instructions.

Newsgroups line:
aus.sport.shooting Australian shooting sports involving firearms.

Votes must be received by Saturday November 01 2003 10:59:59 +1000.

For this vote to pass, YES votes must be at least 2/3 of all
valid (YES and NO) votes. There must also be at least 20 more
YES votes than NO votes.

This vote is being conducted by ausadmin. For voting questions contact
. For questions about the proposed group
contact Lindsay Vincent lindsay at hornet..net..au.

RATIONALE:

The proposed group (aus.sport.shooting) would cater for the discussion
and dissemination of information pertaining to all forms of sport
involving firearms (longarms and handguns) in Australia. This would
include hunting for food (eg: rabbits), sport (eg: pigs & goats)
or livelihood (eg: fox), target, clays, competition, reloading/ballistics,
pistols, and the like.

Currently, there is no newsgroup in the aus.* hierarchy that covers
any form of sport shooting in Australia.

The only other forums available that I'm aware of are rec.guns,
and alt.sport.shooting. rec.guns is heavily biased towards
shooting in the USA, and alt.sport.shooting is sparsely populated
with approx 13 on-topic posts in the last 30 days.

Shooting sports in Australia are generally frowned upon because of
the adverse media attention given to any article mentioning firearms.
The majority of firearm owners that I know would like a forum to
talk about shooting sports in Australia (which, with respect) is
different to the United States and other countries.

This group would give Australian sporting shooters somewhere to talk
about their sport - somewhere for the sporting shooter to discuss
the merits of Breneke slugs on pigs, .22 Magnum over .22 Hornet,
Michael Diamond's chances at the Athens Olympics, gun mods and
repairs, and so on...

END RATIONALE.

related topics in Australia. Examples of on-topic discussions include:
