Jeff Currier - Mongolia

Jeff Currier was one of the candidates to speak at our club's "Spring
Fling" next April. He just returned from Mongolia and posted a TR.
Between his report and Myron's (sans the wasting disease of Myron's
arm), this is a trip I definately want to make.

Sounds like he was in the same region as us. We also drive a full day
out of Meron, but the pictures he shows looks like a different
waterway than the Delger Muron. But the fishing is the same.

Frank; why don't you come along this year? I'm putting together
another trip, but this one primarily for fishermen, during the end of
June. We only need 6 people total to make it happen; it will be about
10 days on-river, and for about $1700 everything will be included
(boats, food, guide, air transport inside Mongolia, etc).

I'm dying to get back out there, since I couldn't do any fishing last
time. BTW, the doctors said my arm problem had nothing to do with
being up there....in fact, the Mongolian wilderness is considerably
cleaner and more healthy than Hong Kong.

great, but the air fare to Mongolia is $2454, so that makes it $4154
before I string a rod.
By the way, the flight choices were either United and Air China via
LAX and Beijing or the other was Delta and Aeroflot via Atlanta and
Moscow. The cost of the latter flight was $5768. Hmm, double the
price to fly Aeroflot, the deadliest major airline in the world.
Their rating in "Full Loss Equivalents" is double any other airline.
I guess its the thrill factor.

Korean Air to Seoul, then Mongolian Air (MAOT or something like that)
to Ulaanbaatar. Should be around $1500 from the US.

Still, keep it in mind for another time...

10 days later. You considering it? :-)
If we can get a trip of just flyfishers, then there's no 'social
pressure' to make river miles, etc, and we can fish the river pretty
intensely.

You don't get outside the US much, do you? :-)

Really, despite the name and images of Ghengis Khan and his hordes,
Mongolia is both extremely tame and extremely beautiful. Imagine
Alaska without the crowds.
