Default 20 lb test on Ambassadeur Reel

Just got an Ambassadeur c4 reel. It says that it has a capacity of
10lb/170 yards. If I wanted to, could i put 12,14, or even 20lb test
on this reel or am I limited to 10lb test?

Thanks,

Thanks. It is the 4600 C4, and I was just hoping that if i was going
to take a striper fishing trip that I would not need a new reell. I
actually just bought 2 c4's and 2 c3's because I found an amazing deal
at a local place.

35$ for c3 and 44$ for c4

Thanks,You can put whatever you want on it. The spool capacity figure is just a

guideline so you have an idea how much line it will take. I'd bet there
are far more 'round' ambassadeurs with 14 to 20 pound test line on them
in the world than with 10 or 12.

That is a good price. You can put Power Pro on them and have even
more line capacity at higher test ratings too.

Absolutely go with 20 to 30 pound Power Pro braided line. I spend about 5
months a year fishing srtipers almost weekly for the past 4 years now and I
only use Power Pro. I fish a local river with a number of other guys who
post reports online and I have at least as much if not more general success
than anyone I know on the river, I fish braided right to the hook. No
leader, no mono, no flouro, just 20 to 30 pound Power Pro. I would say I
land from 3 to 4 hundred fish over a couple of seasons on one spool with a
very rare break off or tangle. I really don't see stripers as being line
shy, sometimes they hit the side of my boat trying to grab a swimbait as I
lift it from the water, and my foot is on the trolling motor in current. If
they're eating, not much will get it their way.

/!\ some pics of fish from the river all landed on Power Pro with no leader
to 1/2 oz leadheads and 4" sassy shad style swim-baits, we use white and
chartreuse the most but dark colors work well sometimes. We throw at
potential ambush points in current and either jug the bottom or steadily
retrieve at a medium pace so the bait runs about 3 or 4 feet below the
surface and we kill em.
