Default Explore the RIver - Bull Trout,Tibal People and the Jocko River

I saw a wonderful presentation at a TU meeting about 22 miles of the
Jocko River - being successfully restored .
The sludge from mines has devastated the South Fork of the Jocko

This project and study is in conjunction w
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and their elders.

There are extensive interviews w the elders and some of the younger
tribal and gov't environmental officials aiding in this endeavor
They have also recently involved a 5th grade class in a tribal school
The kids are hands on - helping w the restoration. project

There is a DVD and a presentation w their web site that can be used
as a model for other areas and schools

http://www.cskt.org/

The amount of info in this program and DVD and web site is astounding.
This project started w the restoration and protection of bull trout
in N Montana esp in Flathead Lake
(The Lake trout are successfully competing for food)

They talked about the plentiful fish and teeming riversw salmon trout
and a lot of game and how fish were an often overlooked part of the
tribal history.

Esp in lean hunting times
The people followed the fish
When they discussed the gathering and camping at the bottom, of
Flathead Lake - w The Pond Oreille Indians and 3 foot salmon
It drove me nuts w regrets to what has been done to our planet
Check it out.

If you want a copy of the DVD
i can send out some.
Or Contact them direct

I found it fascinating.
