....just had to share this, what with so many people still waiting for
spring....I left ""Cornfield County, Indiana last Saturday, and, most
unusual for a trip of 2200+ miles across country, blue skies all the way to
California. Here I sit in El Centro in the heart of the Imperial valley,
onboard El Centro Naval Air Facility with my son and family. We have had a
marvelous time together, getting re-acquainted with my grandsons who are
both teenagers now. The Blue Angels were out yesterday practicing for the
big air show here this coming Sat. and will again today...never get enough
of those guys in their flying machines! Temps in the mid to high 80's
every day. I won't be in any hurry to return to the cold stuff BTW. Upon
crossing into Calif. sticker shock set in as the first gas sign I saw was
regular unleaded @ $2.49/gal!! Thankfully, I have found somewhat cheaper
stuff since at $2.19 here in El Centro.
Not much fishing here in the desert but I didn't bring the gear this time
anyway...saving myself for spring in VA, FL and Maine.
For the business travelers on ROFF, I have found a neat little device called
a WI-FI FINDER, costs about 30 bucks and about the size of a credit cart, it
will sniff out wireless signals, supposedly out to a half a block or so,
depending on signal strength. Mine went off while passing a couple of major
name truck stops and near some of the pricier motels. I see where that will
come in handy in my travels across country. FWIW

What a monumental waste of fuel. I wonder how many library books
we could put in public school libraries for the money it costs
the taxpayer to let the jet jockeys play their silly air games ?

I'm sure all the information you need to answer that question is
available in your local library, why not go check it out?

I'm not so sure it is. Decoding byzantine military budgets is no
easy task even if they are supposed to be a matter of public record.
Besides, it was a rhetorical question anyway, but then you knew
that already.

Keep it up Fortenberry; you usually write what I am thinking. Don't ever
think you are a lone voice in the wilderness.

Of course, the librarian cannot guarantee Ken that what he looks at, checks

So, putting more books in public school libraries would just provide
more opportunity for the government to gather data on students - while
air shows are just good clean fun. Who knew 40 was a homeland security
operative. g

One dares to hope he doesn't write ALL that you are thinking.
Fractional dimensions are mathematically interesting and their
graphical representations have a certain visual appeal, but as
descriptions of human character they lead to unflattering conclusions.

Don't ever
think you are a lone voice in the wilderness.

So, on the one hand you toss off what appears to be intended as a
compliment, while on the other you suggest he should never believe he
has achieved the goal toward which he aspires.

Wolfgang
confusing......but life is like that, i guess.

Yeah, me too. The difference, I think, is that I'm usually pounding flour into a
country fried steak, splitting wood, or some other "whacking" activity at the
time *any* of Ken's political thoughts enter my head. Although I know Ken
probably doesn't actually look like a steak or a piece of wood, it *does* make
me feel better. ;-)
