Just subscribed to the group and it showed 395 messages but as it was
downloading it dumped 350 of them. I don't have anyone killfiled and my
"read" settings are at 1000 messages.

Any ideas as to why I only got 45 messages? My server is primus.

kev.....puzzled?

Nope! It should've loaded the last 1000 but as I say, it only showed 395
headers when I firsy subscribed, and killed 350 of them as I was
downloading shrug

My server is primus too, they suck, I only seem to get about 50% of
the messages in the groups I read. It even dropped at least one of the
messages in this thread, I know because I got your reply to it but not
the message you replied too (if that makes sense).

Also it seems there's not a great deal of traffic in here, maybe
everyone is out fishing.

Cheers and good fishing....JC

It appears that way on *some* of my groups and they seem to be spot on
with others.

Yup!

Pity. I'm a whingeing pomm migrant and was hoping to pick up a few tips
such as do folks use a swivel on their terminal tackle when fishing
lures and squidgees?

maybe everyone is out fishing.

Wish *I* was. Homeschooling one of my boys put an end to that on a
weekday basis.

Cheers and good fishing....JC

Thanks...........and may your bait be frightened :-)

I had the pleasure of watching fishomania on foxtel recently, never
seen so much excitement over someone catching a carp

such as do folks use a swivel on their terminal tackle when fishing

I haven't done a lot of lure fishing although I own about 10 million
of them. When I do toss a lure about it's usually a mr twister and I
never use a swivel as I've found it tends to kill the action and
sometimes the lure gets caught on the swivel during the cast.. The
only time I've used a swivel with a lure is on spinning lures that
otherwise twist the line into a birdsnest and they have to be decent
quality ball bearing type swivel, the average everyday swivels don't
seem to work well enough. I have heard of people who use swivels with
clips for quick changing of lures but it only takes a minute or 2 to
tie one on and I don't trust those clips to hold a decent fish.

Yeah. They're a cracking fish to catch on course fishing tackle. My mate
specialised in 'em. They're not the same as the carp introduced here
though. They grow to around 22 kilos and the odd bigger one has been
caught. Talk about specialising. He'd pre'bait a pond (dam) every
morning and night with luncheon meat and sweet corn (or potato)for about
two weeks to get the carp "hooked" on that food and then fish the same
spot from Friday evening till Monday morning. His biggest carp was
caught by accident whilst fishing for Tench :-) ............17kilo on
3k line!

Tell me about it! :-) I have 5 kids and they buy some different kind of
lure everytime they get their pocket money!

OK. I thought that was the case that a swivel would kill the action of
squidgees and the like. The weights in those things are mever enough for
my baitcaster and I have to put extra weight further up the line. The
pre-weighted hooks always seem to have too small a weight for the size
of the hook.

I have heard of people who use swivels with
clips for quick changing of lures but it only takes a minute or 2 to
tie one on and I don't trust those clips to hold a decent fish.

Agreed. I used to buy wire traces from Big W but lost many a decent fish
because of the clip straightening, even when I pinched 'em down with
pliers. I've took to snipping the clips off and attaching the remaining
loop of wire to a gang hook. OTOH, I've had sharks to 80 kilo that
haven't straightened 'em out (40 kilo bs) so it's the luck of the draw I
suppose but I prefer to play safe. I've recently found a trawler supply
from which I get cheap wire and crimps (Korean) and it's pretty good
stuff)

Nice jawin' with yer :-)
