I finally hooked 6 and landed 4 cutthroats! It was my first time
catching
trout on a fly rod. :-) I have caught bass and bluegill but it just
isn't the same....
The biggest one was about 10 inches but it made my day. :-) Will post a
link to a few pics when I get home from the current work trip...

Welcome to our world. You've been assimilated. Prepare to spend the price
of a new Ranger bass boat on your tackle (thats just in the first year).
Great trip report. All first time fly fishermen should have such a great
place for a trial by fire with such great results.

Hi,

I am a newbie to this group and fly fishing. Started out by purchasing
a TFO 9ft 6wt rod at Bass Pro with a CV2 reel...
Got some Hodgman waders and boots at Galyan's and headed for a
vacation/photography trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons from 3 July-12
July.

The other couples and my wife were there to shoot pics so there was not much
chance to fish but I did wet a line for about an hour at time in the Gibbon
above the Virginia Cascades...the Gibbon in the meadow area...the
Firehole...Yellowstone Lake and the upper part of the Gardiner (north end of
the park)...and the Snake River south of Jackson.
Not ever having done this before (I am usually hunting LM bass in Texas) I
have a new found respect for anyone who finds and catches any species of
trout!! I did find/see some trout while wading the Gardiner and the
Firehole but did not hook up on any. Fished mostly dries with no
takers...hopper pattern and a couple of others.
An hour to fish each day was not enough for me to figure out the best
approach or areas but I gave it a shot.

Finally on the last day the group went white water rafting while I headed to
the Snake River 5 miles south of Jackson...
A guy named Jeff from Coldwater Creek in Jackson put me on the spot and
swore a dropper nymph rig would be the ticket.

The nice thing about being a fly fishermen from Texas is that the
state maintains for its citizens this nice stretch of trout water up
in the Rockies.

Its called Colorado.

Thanks for the ridealong on a great trip and way to take up the addiction of
fly fishing. If you can't catch it bad on a trip to the Yellowstone area there
is no hope. Give me a holler sometime as I live in Plano and have been
flyfishing in the Yellowstone area off and on since the mid 50's. I have also
been hanging out around ROFF for several years now.
