Default Veterans Day

I was screwed either way. Had already gotten a draft notice and decided the
USAF was better than the US Army. Christmas 1964. When they went to the
lottery, I think mine was #43.

Was in before they dreamed up the lotto stuff. Did the rounds of the
recruiters. The Army promised me they'd send me to either Alaska or
Hawaii. The Air Force promised lousy advancement but I could watch
other folks fly jets. The Marines that I'd learn how to kill people
and the Navy recruiter was leaning against the office door saying "Hey
fella." Looked like a hooker so I passed on them. Went to see the
Coast Guard recruiter ..second floor of an almost abandoned back
street building. Said I was smart so I'd probably be an officer my
first tour and I'd have more tail than I could handle in 6 months.
That was all I needed to hear so I signed my X.
Lying *******. I found while bobbing around the Gulf on patrol 6
months later it was MY tail some horney bos'n wanted to handle.

Never made admiral either.

McCormick and Schmicks is another Northwest HQ and origin outfit that
just does some good stuff, without sounding like a spew of FOX
jingoism. But then considering this is the "left coast," and as Sara
Palin pointed out, we are not a "patriotic" part of the USA, maybe M&S
should just put their hand out to the gov't like she and most of the
other phony right-wingnut "conservatives" do.
