low flow (feather river, above highway 70 bridge) will be blown out
until Feb 6.* DWR is conducting maintenance on the Thermalito Bay
outlet. They are reducing the flow out of the outlet and increasing the
release from the dam to the low flow. Starting 27 Jan flows will
increase 200 cfs every 4 hours in the low flow from the norm of 600 cfs
to 2400.

Steelhead season just started on jan 1st on this section, and the DWR
takes this out for 2 weeks?!??!? Why cant they do this in march or
april when their are fewer steelhead or salmon? Wouldnt increasing the
CFS from 600 to 2400 harm salmon and steelhead redds as well as the
newly hatched salmon fry?

If it does, since steelhead are a threatened species arent they breaking
the law?

Bill Kiene, what is your opinion on this?

Steve,
In the winter, low and high flows of water will not have as much
effect on the fish as it would have in warm weather. Cold water
can hold more dissolved oxygen than warm water and the fish can
adjust to the flow by moving.
