you know, racial slurs - about them because you imagine they might look down
upon others because you perceive they use derogatory, racially-based
terms...which naturally in your mind they would do, because, hey, that's what
THOSE people do...

On top of which, you feel some need to defend those you perceive as being
"slurred"...as long as they are of a race that you perceive as requiring your
defending them...you know, sort of like a parent would do for their helpless
child...or a big, strong man would do for his baby-mam...er, woman...

Well there's the issue, I don't consider "hillbilly" to be an
offensive racial slur nor would I consider someone uttering it
to be using racist language.

Is that just horribly unfair and a terrible injustice ? Maybe.
Here's what you ought to do, organize to right this horrible
wrong. You could form The Citizen Rednecks Advocating Common
Klan Expression Respectability Society and fight for your right
to use offensive racial slurs without incurring societal reproach.

I'm sorry to keep piggy backing on your posts, because i don't mean to
necessarily direct this to you personally; but since you brought it
up...

I certainly agree (and I'm willing to bet Ken does too) that
"hillbilly" can be and often is intended or received as an insult. In
either case, I've never seen the insult intended as racial. We city
slickers coined the phrase as an insult to the intelligence or
sophistication of our rural brethren, not because of their race. You
are not wrong to point out its insulting nature, but Ken is also
correct in not considering it a racial slur, IMHO of course.

You're being silly. Of course I speak up when I encounter racial
slurs which are offensive to me. What should I do, take a poll ?

I don't consider "hillbilly" to be an offensive racial slur, if
you do you should speak up. I'll ignore you, of course, and think
you're silly but that's what happens sometimes when you speak up.
