Thanks in advance for you guidance..... My favorite spinner bait trailer is a 3/0 large eyelet J-Hook with the eye stuffed in a short piece of surgical tubing and then the eyelet impaled over the hook of the spinnerbait. I like it because it catches fish that miss the spinnerbait's main hook. Amazingly its also my favorite buzzbait trailer. Most spinnerbaits have skirt material that is too long. I like to trim most of it down to the length of the hook and leave about 5 strands full length. IMO gives the same affect as a twin tail trailer without having to worry about rigging and re-rigging it all day. Since I fish spinner baits almost exclusivley in grass and bull rushes regular trailers get knocked down constantly. Bob La Londe http://www.yumabassman.com |

Spinner bait trailers
In cold water when I want to slow the spinnerbait down I use a twin
tail curly trailer like the Zoom Fat Albert, say colder than 50 degrees. In 50 to 60 degree water I will use a single curly tail trailer. Over 60 I am moving the bait pretty fast so I use a split stright tail. All add a little more bulk to the bait, especially when I stop it to flare the skirt. In real clear water I don't use a trailer. Muddy water gets the twin tail and as it clears I go through the same steps with the different tails, mainly because I move the bait very slowly in muddy water, faster in stained and much faster in clear. I use a metal trailer hook when I use one, not plastic. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

It is a confidence thing with me now. Too many times over the years when it got a little torn up or I thought the scent was gone I would thread on a new one and Bang, a Bass in the next couple casts. I never use a trailer hook. Of course, up here in the north country Bass are not that pressured so they hammer a Secret Weapon more often than not. Walleyes on the other hand get a stinger hook quite often. JoeZ |
