Default St. Croix River, Cass Lake

I'm a novice fisherman, just got started with a spincaster in July and
would like to learn more about fishing (particularly bass). I'm
taking a crash-course, learn-as-you-go approach as I'm also trying to
teach my 4 year old how to fish. Every experience is worthwhile. I'm
based out of Stillwater MN and would like to try fishing the St. Croix
river from shore. Any advice on species in the St. Croix, the type of
set-up I will need, good spots on the shoreline etc are appreciated.
I will also be heading up to an island at Cass Lake later this month,
so any advice for that area is also welcome.

Cheers,

Alan

For the St. Croix River at Stillwater, stop in at the bait shop just
east of town. Can't recall the name, but two brothers own it and also
run a guide service. They can fill you in on shore fishing access, etc.

And the island on Cass Lake? That would be Star Island and the lake is
Windigo. Some basic advice: Cass is one of the premier muskie/walleye
lakes in MN. Don't mess aroung with Windigo. Fish Cass. Bypassing Cass
to fish Windigo is like paying for a buffet and settling for a glass of
water!!
