Default Surface carp, best bait ???

I like to think a nicely baited bread-crust is the best type of off-the-top
carp baits, but for the 1st time, I tried the phoney sweetcorn, used usually
for ledgering, and the amount of 'takes' I had was astonishong, considering
i was 'playin' really. This is one i'll be using again...I still have not
found the best type of bread that has a crust that doesn't split when
threading the hook thro' it, although an unsliced one from asdas comes
pretty close, and like i posted before, some roundish, triangularish, dog
biccys from wilkos that cost about 20p for 200...( If you pour boiling water
on 'em the night before,..drain...wrap in dry newspaper and stand overnight
.... they become hookable, and don't come off with a longish cast.),..also
another from wilkos looks exactly like the 'chum mixer' but costs a lot
less......and 'no' i don't work for wilkos, i don't work period.....All the
best...FRED C

What the heck is wilkos?
I deciphered asdas to be ASDA.
Sweet corn works for me early in the season.

Get yourself a bait needle - or make one from a long needle with the end
bent double to form a long thin hook - push this through the bread, hook
your fishing hook and pull it through the other side of the bread - I use
them all the time for meat, catfood, bread and lots of other baits.

Get your self a small bag of expanders from the tackle shop, these are made
for soaking and using as a hookbait for pole fishing (you cant cast them
when they're soaked-they're like snot) but when un soaked they bring all the
carp to the top - they can't resist 'em.......I just go along the bank and
drop a few handfuls no more than a few inches from the bank before I set up
and they are into 'em almost immediately - I then sneak up and drop a piece
of bread in their path, it rarely fails and the only problems come from the
'feathered menace'.

When summertime draws on, you may notice that chum mixers lose their
effectiveness - a good idea is to flavour the water that you use to soak
them in, I've used vanilla essence and strawberry flavouring to good effect
and even oxo, you can buy flavourings from a cake making shop or any good
supermarket for about 30 - 50p - don't go to the tackle shop or he'll try to
charge you a fiver for 40 pence worth of flavouring (but it does have a
picture of a big fish on it though!)

How strange, or coincidental Phil, I went to Moon Lake today,(MONDAY), and
with the bread, I was using the baiting needle to pull the hook thro' the
crust, and then when it 'nicks' the white of the bread, on the way back, i
give it a 'pinch', to secure it,and mask it,...not too much tho' or it sinks
slightly,...( I mentioned i'm fishing off the surface ) ..my old boy likes
to half-hitch the line round the bread too, only scored a 5lb'er, loads of
takes as usuall, so i still insist i'm doin' summat drastically
wrong.......wether or not the hooks too small/big (14 eyed),haired,(tried
it)...i also caught the only fish BTW, on a pink pop-up boilie, hair rigged
with 'real thin' fusewire..(wrapped round shank of hook several
times.....WORKED THO'...and don't anyone go on about effin fusewire being
cruel, i've served my days guilt in my mind!!,see i have got a conscience,
but the will 2 catch a big 'un might outweigh it....nah, it doesn't, i love
nature.......All Best....CODFATHER FRED

Try a #6 and a bait to suit.
