Default Farmoor opening day

Last year everybody blanked. Rumoured that cormorants had wiped out all
the over-wintering trout. This year they stocked a couple of weeks ago.
Friday - lovely day, light S breeze, high clouds, and very few fishers
- apparently they were all at the club's lake at Darlow - shoulder to
shoulder. Those that were fishing were all using sinkers and
lures/boobys. However there were buzzers everywhere so I decided to give
it a go for a bit with a floater, 25 ft leader and a team of black
buzzers (gold-head buzzer on the point to take them down). I was more
than surprised to get a take after a few casts - no connection. Then, as
usual, pouring a cup of coffee when there was a splash way out and the
reel buzzed (rod happily anchored). Connected and landed a 1.5 lb
trout. Thereafter there were takes at regular intervals, all at my
maximum casting distance (about 25 yds), and all landed fish on the
point. After about 11, action slowed, although there were still lots of
buzzers around - only one more take (missed) till 2 pm when I packed up.
Kept 2 fish of 3 landed. Stomaches were stuffed with what looked like
green weed, but turned out to be a dense mass of small (size 16-18)
buzzers!)

Gordon
