Kangaroo Skin

Does it have any use in fly tying? I have a chance for one

You could use the fur for dubbing.. The fur that is.. Not the Skin.

I doubt you could spin it like deer hair.
Preparing it might be a lot of work if your not setup for that.

You could also dye patches of it for many different dubs.
Or set yourself up with a lifetime supply and give other patches to
friends/fellow fly tiers.

It's great for hoppers.

Hi,
Hmmm . . . I've never used it. Any US retail source?
Would just like a couple patches . . . back . . .and tummy.
All has to be legal.

Don't know about whole hides. Google shows tons of hits on kangaroo skin
products for sale.

It appears to be illegal in New York, which leads me to believe it's a
state-by-state thing. I can't find anything on a federal level
· N.Y. ENVTL. CONSERV. §11-0536 - Envtl. Conserv. Sale of certain wild
animals or wild animal products prohibited.

1. Except as provided in subdivision three hereof, no part of the skin or
body, whether raw or manufactured, of the following species of wild animals
or the animal itself may be sold or offered for sale by any individual,
firm, corporation, association or partnership within the state of New York:

Kangaroo (Macropodidae)

Kangaroo hide is used in Adidas soccer shoes. An animal rights group is
trying to ban its importation to California. I believe the importation
of hides from certain endangered kangaroo species was once banned, but
the ban was lifted.

When I was a kid kangaroo hide was used in the highest quality hockey
skates -- Tackaberrys. I had a pair.
