rachel and i visited wyoming and montana july 11-18. met up with danl,
willi, and rw in the bridger-teton national forest above kemmerer, then
rachel, danl and i traveled up to quake lake area of montana for 3 days
to fish the madison and west fork, and with hope of catching the cutts
in 3-day creek. 3-day was still in runoff, so couldn't fish it. did
well on the madison...it wasn't crowded, and the salmon fly hatch was
just reaching the area when rachel and i left. west fork yielded a lot
of fish in the 9-13 inch size. my camera malfunctioned - worked
sometimes and sometimes refused to open lense, so not many photos...plus
i left it with rachel most days. some of these photos are ones she
took. rachel and i left quake lake, traveled through the park on the way
to jackson. i fished the nez on the way down...lots of fun and lots of
9-10 inch fish in a pretty setting. jackson hole...not my favorite
place...sort of a huge western outdoor saks 5th avenue/wal-mart kind of
place, with spurs and antlers, for the wealthy. but the surrounding
countryside, the teton national park, and the streams were great. fished
two creeks north of jackson, one of which was as nice a stream as i've
seen anywhere with lots of 14" cutts.

Great Photos and a very cute dog
Thanks
I was there in mid to ennd of June and the waters were ragiong
I think I will go back next week
For me its a 5-6 hr drive

Sincerely and thanks again

Glad to hear and see that you and Rachel had a great trip out West, Jeff.
The pics are wonderful, especially the one of Sadie. I hope that one day I
can make it out West and you can show me the tricks on some of your favorite
rivers and streams.

thanks mark... it's always a fun trip, and even better when rachel can
enjoy some of the stuff i like so much.

it should be a requirement of u.s. citizenship that all residents visit
yellowstone and places west. lord knows there are enough foreigners out
there! it's a special place... frankly, fishing out west is easier
than most of the fishing we do in nc, especially the hiking and
river-stalking. you'd have no problem in making the transition. the big
skies, magnificent landscapes, and the abundant water, wildlife, and
fish make it a must see and do. don't let too much time get by before
you give it a go.

fun images, jeffie. whenever i am provided examples of your excellent fly
fishing abilities, i am reminded of the scene in "jeremiah johnson", when
bear claw meets up with johnson in the snow covered rockies of early spring,
and says "you have done well, pilgrim, to keep so much hair..."

it's been a long time since the early days on elk creek, and you have done
well, indeed.
