Default Ohio, Ky. fishermen haul in winning trophy

When Chris DeBow of Madeira and Rob Benningfield of Bowling Green,
Ky., tell you their fish tale, believe them, because this team of
anglers caught the biggest catfish in the 2013 Cabela King Kat Classic
National Championship.

The championship is the culmination of the King Kat Trail tournaments
that started in March on rivers and lakes across 19 states. Anglers
compete along the trail to qualify for the classic.

Debow said through email that 75 boats launched into the water for the
two-day event.

All catfish must be caught on a rod and reel. The fish need to be
alive and in good health when they are weighed. Many of the anglers
carry large livewell fish tanks on their boats to assure the fish
remain so.

On the first day, Benningfield and DeBow caught a flathead catfish
that weighed in at 44 lbs.

“The second day of the tournament proved a very difficult bite,” DeBow
said.

By the end of the long day, the team had caught two more fish. They
nervously brought their catch to the weigh-in. The weight of the fish
they caught during the two-day tournament weighed a total of 167.05
pounds, giving them a first place finish and a brand new Oquakwa boat
package valued at $32,000.
