Default Solutions: Hook Holders

Been going around with assorted plastic boxes for my hooks. Most have the
snap-in dividers, which the hooks slide under. Also, small hooks have a
tendency to get over the top into the next bin.
On some advice, I explored my local crafts store. In the beading section,
you can find great boxes for your hook storage. I found one from "Craft
Mates" that is clear and has 14 double locking comparments (two rows of 7).
There is the individual snap top for each compartment and and a bar that you
have to push in on the side to open the top.
These and a label maker and now I've got boxes for dries, wets, streamers
(2X to 6X), nymph and specialty hooks. Nicely organized and very portable.
Gonna use one for my bead heads (who woulda thunk of that).
(no, I don't work for any craft stores or companies.)

I use hook boxes made by Umpqua. I haven't had any of the problems that you
mentioned. Of course I never turn them upside down either. They sit on my
tying table, stacked up one on top of the other. There are 21 compartments
in each box. They also come with a piece of paper in the lid that you can
write the description of each compartment on to easily identify each hook.
Of course, I use Tiemco hooks, so I keep the little paper label in the
bottom of each compartment too. And since their little hooks come with a
magnet attached to this little piece of paper, it makes it even nicer. You
can see them he
http://www.traditionalangler.com/Ump...Organizers.asp Of course, I
use the box pictured on the bottom of the page. The one listed for $7.49.

Frank,

craft stores are definitely someones gift to the flytier. We had one across the
street at our old place and I used to walk over and spend lots of time there
before we moved. Ive bought things like beads, sparkling yarn, mylar etc.... as
well as 'discovered' new interesting materials.

I use hook boxes made by Umpqua.

I've seen the boxes. Unfortunately, a well equipped crafts store is now
much closer than a well equipped fly fishing store. I would have to custom
order those. The boxes I got were $2.99 US apiece. Fairly good price.

I used to loathe going with my wife to the craft stores. Now I suggest
it.

Get flat rubberized magnets and cut them into small pieces and plaace in
each section of the box. Works well for me.
