Default Smart Cast

If it's that little doodad that you put on your wrist that communicates with
a floating transducer that you cast out with a rod and reel....I have heard
conflicting reports. Some say it is handy. Some say it is primitive and
not worth the cost. I would say that for someone who fishes exclusively or
mostly from shore or dock, they are worth a good look. I guess even from a
boat in shallow water, the boat's sonar does not give the least hint of any
bottom structure or fish that are 30 or 40 feet away. I often see guys that
spot objects that may be fish, quickly stop their boats, drop anchor and the
proceed to cast as far away as possible. The display screen on the tiny
wrist watch style bottom detector is a tad small to my liking. There is the
model that hangs from the belt or propped up on the ground or seat. This is
the "Smart Cast".
If I was getting such a device, that would be the one I would choose. The
screen
resolution is as good or better than the LCR units that came out 15 to 20
years ago. If the company says that it's possible to get reception from the
transducer 100 feet away, don't count on it. But at less than 75% of what
they say, I would demand a refund. The 90 degree angle means that the
sonar's detection cone diameter is very large, therefore ideal for shallow
water fishing. These devices are not very expensive now. The remote sensor
has to be replaced after a while but they are not very expensive. A
fisherman can even use 2 sensors in the water at a time. Sensor A and
sensor B. He can switch from one sensor to the other. Each sensor has a
400 hour life span. There is a power switch that activates only when the
sensor is in the water. The more I am writing about them...the more I like
them. But hey, my sonar is an LCR 2000 from over 20 years ago and the other
is an even older Lowrance flasher unit for ice fishing. As you can see, I'm
not very high tech.
