Snap swivels (power pro line is tangling).

I know you're not supposed to use snap swivels, but I'm having trouble
with my line tangling. I'm using power pro 20/6 on a symetre 2000. The
last 2 times fishing I got a huge tangle. I swear I saw my line
instantly form a monstrous tangle right before my eyes. I thought I
was seeing things because I thought braided line was immune to this.

Yesterday I decided to try the dreaded snap swivel. I tried to keep
the bulkiness to minimum by making my own. I used a real small swivel
and connected it to a duolock snap, both black. I had great luck! I
tried a new pond and caught 4 good sized bass in an hour, plus many
misses.

Anyway I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with braided
superline tangling. Also I'm going to order some swivels, what are the
best kind? I'm using Jero's #12 (I think) but I'm assuming there are
better ones. I figure if I'm going to use snap swivels I might as well
get really small, high quality ones.

Cr... not sure who told you . . . you can't use snap swivels, but I use
braided line on just about all my rods. I use a clamp swivel on my crank
bait rods all the time as well. If you are having trouble with birds nests
(overruns) it's usually how the line is laid on the reel, magnetics,
tension or dreaded wind.

You didn't say whether you were using spinning reels or baitcasting.
With my spinning reels at least twice a day I take the lures off, let out
considerable length of line when Im idleing along, engage the spool and let
the line go through the water for at least a quarter mile or so. This will
help with spinning reels.

I also use reel magic on the line sometimes. I notice that if you get a
"crimp" in braided line, it's best to cut and retie below it. Seems to me
the darn thing will hang up again and again sometimes. Best cure for those
bird nests on baitcasters though is to make sure tension and magnetics are
set properly. And don't over throw the reel, that is don't throw too hard
(especially with braids. . . seems they are more easily tangled when
overthrowing). When i get nests, most times it's overthrowing or not
watching the wind. Good luck hope some helped.

Use a #12 (15 lb rating) barrel swivel, then put on a Duo-lock #1 (20lb
rating) wire snap.
You should be OK on that Shimano spinning reel.

I used to use snap swivels religously, but I have found that I get much better
lure action without them. Now I tie a ball-bearing swivle to the end of my
line followed by a 12 to 24" leader on all of my spinning rods. It greatly
cuts down on line twist which is the root of almost all spinning tackle
tangles.
