Default TR - South Fork Tuolumne/Big Creek

Spent a week at the family cabin building a deck and doing some
fishing. Cabin is right on the South Fork of the Tuolumne River in
Stanislaus County (Yosemite region) of California. Runoff was too
much for South Fork, but the Big Creek tributary was running just fine
for the natural browns and rainbows. Fished the creek three times
(two times at the same location and one up the creek from the main
river).

First two days the fishing was good, but overgrowth on creek made for
some interesting casting techniques to get around the brush and trees.
Son and I each caught about 10 or so trout ranging from smaller than
keepers to 8 to 9 inch brownies, which is quite large for this
tributary.

Last day my brother and I went up from the main river and caught
several rainbows and browns. Most of the hits were on wulffs, elk
hair caddis and black ants. The last day stretch had less growth and
several great pools. It was one of those days where the time had come
to go back but the next pool looked even better.

I suspect the tributaries will be the place to fish until the end of
June with the runoff and snow pack they have in the Sierras right now.

Allyn
