You know, you have yet to link to the NG's charter saying his free adverts
are worse than your free adverts. You know what else? Frankly I didn't know what an SST map was last week but ended up using his this last weekend on a wade fishing trip in christmas bay. If you are going to complain, you should mention it is hard to find what he posts about because he has too much free stuff on his website...not that his free adverts are more noticeable than yours. It isn't apples and oranges, it is green vs red apples. :) John in Houston (and too far from yellow chaser to get paid for or even use his local forums) |

Sorry but even having a link to a site in your signature can be
considered as advertising, just depends on who you ask. Honestly which pertains more to these forums, SST Maps or Virus software???? David H. Well, since the 'Net, in general, historically accepts advertising of 4 lines or less in sig files and in general, historically does not accept advertising in the body of posts, particularly if it's all the post is about, that's where this all started. Actually it all started because since this is a newsgroup pertaining
to fishing and there are many companies out there that are charging monthly fees for the same SST maps that I was offerig to people to free, and since it did pertain to this newsgroup because many experienced fisherman rely on them for finding temperature breaks. I guess it was a fault on my part for assuming that being a professional fisherman myself for many many years I would have wanted to know if someone were offering something like that at no charge and asking nothing in return, but some people just want something that they can complain about in life. Commercial or not, advertising is advertising. We reached the serious fisherman that respected it as a valuable FREE resource that they could use to improve their fishing without having to pay someone every month for it. Not everyone uses SST maps, or understands how to use them effectively as is reflected in this topic. And I seriously doubt there are that many newbies especially in newsgroups, now there may be more in the future as newsgroups are being brought to the web with larger companies like Google but most newbies have no idea how to even get to newgroups much less post on them. Some of us have been around since the BBS days and some of us not long at all. Myself I have no problem with advertising as everyone wants to call it, when it is showing someone a resource that costs them nothing to use and pertain to the subject that the reader is researching on, as in fishing. People aren't just in the fishing newsgroups to chat about what color the sky is, there are here to learn and improve their fishing skills, so if a person can't offer something to help them do that without it causing a mess or being run around accusing them of spamming the newsgroup then what the heck is everyone doing on here anyway. And how is you sig pointing to your site displaying your artwork any different, what does artwork have to do with the fishing newsgroup anyway? Can't we stay on the subject of the newsgroup or should everyone just be trying to push their Viagra wares in their sigs too. Yes, we noticed that. And you weren't snarled at the first couple of times you did it. It was the damn repetition and this sort of nit-picking whining that finally got me to putting my own snarl in. You and mechanic mike over in the camping groups. Geeze. The only difference was that he's small time commercial. So you made your own private sandbox and you're proud of it. Fine. So far it as that it was a good thing. A couple of times giving a notice of it was okay. But you had to keep pounding on it. "Oh, don't play in that dirty public place, kids, come to _my_ sandbox and play. I'll give you free stuff if you come play in my place." And then again and again. And when someone who's happy in the public sandbox asked you to just go play in your own and stop nagging at him, this started. And your original stated objection was, I believe, to this newsgroup being useless because of porn and advertising? Well, you've got your very own clean place. Will you please play in it and leave us to play in ours? A once a month announcement should be more than sufficient for you to gather an initial group and get them going and occasionally add a member. If it's not, maybe your sandbox isn't as much fun to play in for them as this dirty old place? Maybe your free stuff is hard to find or hard to use or just not good enough? If Rodney is still here maybe he can tell you what effect relentless advertising has on us. He calmed down a lot after a while and stopped putting in all his plugs for his lures. When last I noticed him, he was trying to be helpful and not interjecting his wonderful stuff without cause more often than whenever he made a new project. Has if occurred to you that if you make general information posts here and if you answer any questions in a helpful way, that people will eventually notice your sig file and go to your Web place and try it? But if all they see here are your repetitive advertising and complaints about your repetitive advertising and your pathetic self-justifications that they might be just a bit leery of having anything to do with you? No? Thought not. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. http://www.visi.com/~cyli email: lid (strip the .invalid to email) |

Yes, even have Viagra ads (though most who advertise that sort of thing are not the least interested in posting anything but their SPAM). As long as they're less than 4 lines total. How many months have your been using the 'Net? If it's more than 4, you should have learned about "Nettiquette" by now. My art has nothing to do with any of the newsgroups I post in. I know that. That's why I DON'T ADVERTISE IT IN THE BODY OF MY POSTS, even if I were to post in an art group. Though it's more free than your Web site, as I don't require that anyone register to look at it, meaning I can't get their email addresses and any other information about them and I have no chance of 'moderating' any of their opinions about it. Which also means that nobody who can hack my site will get any advantage out of it other than the possibility of destroying my page. What can they get out of your Web site? HaHa I love messages from newbies like yourself that think that know
all about the world. I was using the internet when your parents were still cleaning your diapers. As you can see since it is a free world still, since you are not in charge, I can and will post in any dirty old sandbox that I like if that is what it takes to let the genuine people know, including your little sandbox babe. And our security is alot better than you think babe. It keeps newbies like yourself from messing things up for everyone else haha. But it was nice hearing from you Oh and P.s. thanks for keeping the topic hot by responding. The smart thing would have been to have let it die out, but then again I can tell by your mentality that you don't think that way.
