Default How to fish new fish-like jigs?

I recently succumbed to impulse buying, and bought myself some Storm
brand jigs that are 4" long and basically look like a mullet. (go to
www.stormlures.com, then look under products, soft plastics and
sal****er. they're the swim-shad).

Anyway, these things are about 1 oz in weight and have an enclosed
jighead- the plastic's cast around it.

How do I fish with these things? Should I just bump 'em along the
bottom, or should I put them under a popping cork?

I've had success working them just like a tout. Cast as far as I can, jig it
back with a double pull, triple pull etc. Never let it touch bottom, but
bottom here is only 18 inches or so in most of the water I fish.

Probably, just like most lures, will work any way you can use it without
hanging up on every other cast.

No reason to think that they wouldn't work with a cork, too...even though
I've never tried it. I don't use corks that much.

I think those are the 'wild eye minnow' or something similar. I bought
several colors and sizes when I first saw them ( I too am an impulse
tackle buyer; who is catching who?). I may have seen Mark Sosin use them
but do not recall. They looked good.

The comments from Rich are about the same as my experience. Even though
it is basically a jig with the jig head enclosed, I had some great
success with trout in approx 4 ft deep water as I waded near a hole with
a faster retrieve. In fact, they were hitting almost as soon as the lure
hit the water (white was the color I was using I think).

Even though the hook is not weedless, riding vertical it is less likely
to catch grass as it descends. I think as with any jig you could fish it
in many ways. As Rich mentioned the cork I would think you could put it
under a 'popping cork' (Cajun Thunder or similar) with success.

I have not used the lure as much but have several bags. I have gone to
the Exude jerk baits, following the crowd I fish with. They work and I
can rig weightless which can be helpful for spooky fish and slower
movement.

Good Fishin'
