Default Daiwa spincaster reel question

I just bought a Daiwa Goldcast III spincast reel to replace a Zebco 33.
On the retrieve, the Daiwa makes a "ratcheting" sound, while the Zebco
is silent. Is this noise just the design of the Daiwa, or is it
defective?

Thanks!

Is there a selector switch on the unit? A lot of spincasters including the
Zebco 33 have a clicking retrieve with a "bait" select or "bait" clicker
setting. No that familar with your Daiwa.

There is a selector switch that turns the auto reverse on and off.Is
that what you mean?

I've used Goldcasts for many years. Every so often they start to do
this. It doesn't seem to hurt but I find it annoying. Disassembly and
cleaning with new lubrication has corrected the problem.
