Default NEW FISHING NEWSGROUP

I have submitted a Request For Discussion (RFD) concerning the starting of a
newsgroup specifically designed for tournament fishing.

The discussion is going on now in: news.groups

Over the last few years I have found other fishing newsgroups to be
inundated with posts from people who have developed a new bait, want to talk
about that 2lb. bass they caught in their yard after the flood, or are
otherwise advertising something. It has become nearly impossible to find
worthwhile tournament info in any of the current newsgroups. As a matter of
fact I only propsed this after talking with several users who used to post
to rec.outdoors.fishing.bass and now find sifting through spam and off topic
posts to be too tedious.

My proposal is to create a newsgroup titled:
rec.outdoors.fishing.tournaments

This would include ALL forms of fresh and sal****er tournament fishing,
fishing methods specific to tournaments, rankings and statistics of
paticipants and description and discussion about tournament trails.
International, national, regional and local information and discussions are
acceptable.

If you have an opinion, pro or con, concerning the establishment of this new
newsgroup please go to: news.groups and voice your thoughts.

Thank You,

Richard Hamel

Well you top posting maggot...just kidding. Seriously tho', I haven't been
into tournament fishing since I found out that "re-locating" the bass after
the weigh-in displaces then, they become rovers and never again establish a
home territory....

....any thoughts....or will you even follow the thread

My, aren't you the nasty one? Did I say something in my post which offended
you or warranted such nastiness?

And, by the the way. I do follow my threads.

And you are slightly misinformed. Local, small scale tournaments for many
years, (and I assume some still do), would just dump all weighed fish in one
spot near the weigh-in station. As most weighed fish are the larger, more
aggressive specimens they would tussle for territory in the immediate
vicinity. This obviously would leave some fish to wander until they could
find suitable homes. It is untrue that they do not "re-establish homes".

Few, if any, pro tournaments do this any more. Most will actually release
the fish in a spread pattern which reduces the immediate competition for
territory.

Hmm, that may be the reason for the article's basis that the bass never
re-established a home, the fact that the immediate area was overcrowded (the
area around the weigh-in)...yours is the first opinion I've heard contrary
to that.

There is one already. Take a look at rec.sports.golf.

Your pal,

TBone
It is impossible to catch and release a wild trout, especially with a
16 cast handicap.

Around here in bass tourney country we(non tourney fishermen) call these
guys "Crankers". Lets see how fast we can CRANK the poor bass over the
surface of the water to get it into the boat. Hey...this is all about...how
fast and how many fish we catch to get the trophy.
