Default CRAWFISH PATTERN??

That's because it *is* a Clouser--just tied in crawdad colors. :)

Yes Steve--tied in at the head. I did fail to mention the 1/24 ox. brass
dumbbell eyes (can also use 1/36 oz).--so make sure to tie it upside

down
i.e. the orange bucktail is tied on top of the hook--which will become

the
underside when finished. Also--put the eyes back at the 1/3 on the
shank--not jammed up against the eye of the hook.

Sounds like a Clouser.

Ain't *that* the truth. That's exactly why I don't tie them up as Whitlock
says "with eyeballs; elbows, and arseholes". The simpler, more
impressionistic, and quick to tie; the better, IMO.

Could anyone reccomend a easy to tye "Crawfish" Pattern?? Thanks!

MIKE

They have one posted on flyfisherman.com as their first article. Doesnt
look like a
lot of work.

The secret to a good crawfish pattern is that it should take less time to
tie than it does to lose. :-)

Joe Bruce's pattern is so simple *I* can tie it. The body is root beer
estaz, the claws are pieces of tan zonker strip. Barbell eyes for the

eyes.
I'll be damned if I remember what the tail is made of. I'll go look at

one
of mine.

Joe F.

It looks like deer hair, tied in a laterally flat fan shape.

I always prefered the clouser's crayfish pattern.
Everyone that ties it will develop their own shortcuts.

I found grey, lightly touched with an olive marker best.
Also, use grey squirrel tail instead of red.

ive knocked hell out of smallies and perch with them.

I really dig Frank Reid's Fightin' Craw pattern. If only I could get the
guy to post the damn thing...

He didn't send a recipe to you either, eh? That's just like 'em.....

Frank -- if you don't send me that recipe, I'm going to have to hit you up
for a large number of them again this year at Penn's just like last. I only
have a couple of the smaller ones left; the big ones fought Scioto River
Smallmouth quite valiantly before parting.

Nice.
I used to use clouser's crayfish in similar colors, until i learned that the orange color
is the hardshell phase of crayfish.
grey/olive/translucent is their color during the softshell phase.
I still carry/fish a few orange versions, but i fish the grey/olive about 20 to 1.
I also noticed that I get the larger more mature fish, more often.

two cents,

Myx
