Agent 1.93 works fine with Win 7. I've been using it for binary and text groups
since version 0.99c in early 1995. 1.93 handles yenc coded binaries
transparently. They're up to version 7 now, but I got 7 years of support out of
the software for one fee, and really got my money's worth. Newer versions are
more binary oriented and databases are not backward compatible. No big deal
unless like me you have a lot of archived email and text Usenet messages. I've
never used Outlook at home.

A free newsreader is XNEWS. I've never used it, but what i recall from others
posting about it is: it is free, handles yenc and is fairly easy to set up or
use. Some think it is quirky, but the author set it up based on his personal
preferences for reading newsgroups, and you can't beat the price even if you
don't like the way he does it.

Version 7 has a 30 day free trial.
