I'm betting on all three in this case, but mostly the last. Rich, I have convinced myself over the last 25 years that the biggest cause is the design of the reel. I've had reels that twist line regardless of what I do, even though the same lures, lines and techniques don't twist line on other reels. My latest instance is the new Regal-Zs twist line whereas their predessors didn't. For example, my RG-Z2500Ts don't twist line, but RG-Z2500Cs DO twist line. Obviously, certain techniques or careless practices cause twist also, but I believe these are secondary to the reel itself. |
