Cab-O-Sil

From the Cabot website:

"The ability of Cab-OSil fumed silica to aDsorb, (my emphasis), moisture is one
of the properties that makes fumed silica an excellent free flow agent for
lumpy or hygroscopic solids."

So, it would seem Wolfgang is correct in his deduction. I tried his experiment,
dumping some Cab-O-Sil in a cup of water. Some of it floated, but about 50% of
it sank, some all the way to the bottom, some adhering to the sides of the cup.
When the water was carefully removed from the cup, I was able to retrieve some
of the Cab-O-Sil from the sides of the cup, and even though it had been
underwater, it was still dry to the touch.

Sounds like almost the same stuff. :)

By the way, I just looked at the Frog's Fanny label. It says (among other
things):

"Odorless Tasteless Non-Toxic Keep out of reach of children. Do not take
internally. Avoid inhaling powder [as opposed to.....what? one wonders]
Wash hands after use."

Hm.......

Well DUH! It's only supposed to be worn *externally* and only if you plan a float
trip.

Hm...... indeed. Before I ordered the Cab-o-Sil I checked the MSDS.
It says pretty much the same thing. The MSDS is for M-5 grade and I am
not sure the stuff I ordered from Aircraftspruce is the same grade but
I was simply interested in safely handeling the stuff and what it was
before I sprinkled it in my favorite waterway. But you all can take a
look as well.
