Do Not Try This at Home!
At least that's what I told my friend.
Yes, I have some pretty crazy friends with expensive hobbies. He thought he give RC Helicopter's a go. Crashed into his rod collection. http://home.comcast.net/~tomnak/Bird_2.jpg -tom |

That's just begging for trouble, toy helicopters or no. -- Ken Fortenberry |

I would imagine anytime you fly a helicopter in the house you're beggin for trouble, but Kris is always getting into mischief. -tom |

I would imagine anytime you fly a helicopter in the house you're beggin for trouble, I believe that logic extends to running ANY internal combustion engine in the house. but Kris is always getting into mischief. Well, he gets points for imagination, anyway. :) Wolfgang um......you might want to let him know that jet propulsion and rocketry are generally seen as outdoor activities as well. |

Lucky for Kris his new toy is electric, or else he would have made pixi-sticks out of those rods, when he passed out from the exhaust fumes. but Kris is always getting into mischief. Well, he gets points for imagination, anyway. :) Yup, over his lifetime, he's scored enough points to make Walt Disney look like a mini mouse. I'm surprised he's still alive with all the trouble he's got into. Wolfgang um......you might want to let him know that jet propulsion and rocketry are generally seen as outdoor activities as well. I'm sure the thought crossed his mind, getting high on jet propulsion fumes...think it was Astronaut Alan B Shepard who first said that in '61 aboard Freedom 7. -tom |

Those tubes would be much better (more compact, lighter weight and stronger) than the other options available for backpacking. I gave away my ultralight Orvis spinning rod, which I don't regret, but I wish I still had the tube. |

Orvis used to sell plastic half tubes, flat on one side, that don't roll around in the canoe, wish I could still find those somewhere. Those interested in such might wish to take ABS (lighter weight) or PVC (DWV, lighter, or Sched. 40 - heavier, but sturdier) pipe and put a fitting with an integral hex, such as shown at the link below, at both ends: http://www.nibco.com/cms.do?id=2&pId=60 All should be available at most plumbing suppliers, Lowe's, Home Depot, hardware stores, etc., depending on one's location, at very reasonable prices. In the US/Canada, one should be able to make a case of 3-4" diameter for 5.00USD or thereabouts. If you order online, make sure you know the part ordered is hex as not all caps, fittings, etc. are hex. Also, if you go with the lighter-weight pipe, make sure you get the proper fittings _and adaptors_ as Sched. 40, DWV, etc. aren't the same size but PVC pressure fittings can be connected with inexpensive adaptors/bushings. Of course, it won't be as "roll proof" as a flat-side case, but it'll be less-so than a totally round one. FWIW, a number of commercial cases use the hex-cap/end method. HTH, R |
