Hook and Hackle sold

Hook and Hackle was recently sold. I hope the new owner handles the
business as well as Bob did. It was a great company to deal with, I hope
that continues.

Ordered stuff from Hook and Hackle over 3 weeks ago, still haven't
received it. Haven't been able to get a response to a couple emails
for status. Their phone rolls over to their answering service. Not
looking good.

The rumor I had heard is that the transition to the new owner went well.
Thanks for the report. Keep us posted. I found Hook and Hackle a great
company to deal with. I'll hope they'll be one again in the future.

Hi,
I dealt with them a lot in the mid '80s when I lived in New York State.
Used to get peacock in bulk (uhh . . .eyes or swords . . . 100-200 at a
time, and fine with me)
At that time they certainly didn't want me to visit the place. I lived a
little bit north of New York City. I many times told them I would place an
order, fish my way up New York State, maybe a side trip to the Battenkill
in Vermont, back to New York State, pick up my order, then fish the
Adirondacks. They always "politely" indicated that would not be possible.
:)
For that time frame it seems they were in the stubby pencil era, but if I
asked if it was in stock, they went and looked, and when they said when it
would be sent, it was sent.
Nice Folks.

I got an email from the new owner (Ron) last week. He said their move from
plattsburgh to the new warehouse in PA didn't go as smoothly as they had
hoped but things were winding down. He also said he wouldn't be answering
any emails due to the volume but things would get better soon and to be
patient. Hope so, I have dealt with H&H since the late 70's. Bob did a
real nice job.

Hmmm . . . interesting philosophy/business plan to not answer customer
questions/concerns
even with just moving a business after the sale.
For me . . .when I want my stuff . . .I want my stuff.
"Splain" it to me, from the new owner(s) and I will feebly understand.
I figure there are phone folks and computer folks , there to help with
transition messages.
Just my 1/2 cent worth.

It's not as if it's difficult for their IT guy to send an autorespond
to every email asking people to wait patiently. It'd be an
unproductive answer, but an answer. You'd know your email was in
there somewhere.

Why I'll only buy second hand Old Town stuff these days. I had a
problem with some oars purchased through the Web site. Sent them an
email to the address given on their Web site. It might as well have
dropped into a black hole. Sent another email. Same nothing. Went
to my default position with such retailers. "Screw 'em. I'm gone."

Just to follow up - I did receive my stuff eventually. Elapsed time
was about 30 days from order to receipt. I must say I was more
frustrated with not being able to get any kind of a status update from
them than from not getting the order quickly.

Hopefully they're through the chaos of the move and things are smoother
for them now. I'll be giving it a good 6 months or so before I order
again though.
