Kistler Helium LTA...snapped

My favorite, a 7' MH baitcast Kistler LTA snapped Saturday.
On the hook-set it just popped with a loud SNAP two feet below the tip.

There were no dings in this rod. I take care of my equipment.

I wrote the company and I'm awaiting a response, but in reviewing their
warranty it looks like I am SOL.
That was an EXPENSIVE rod!!!

Has anyone else had a rod snap like that?
Anyone else deal with Kistler?
How are they?

Seems to me that when you spend that much for a rod they should exchange
it out. At least for a minimal co-pay.

Regardless of what their warranty says, I would send it back to them with a
breif letter about how much you liked the rod and how disappointed you were
that it broke. Include a small check to cover return shipping. See what
they do. Many manufacturers are better than their written warranty or
policy in these cases. Some Like Pflueger honor only the letter of their
warranty and not one iota more.

Some are good about it but make you wait forever for a replacemnt. Shimano
falls in this category.

I found Lamighlas, St Croix, and Quantum to be amoug the fastest responders.
St Croix sent me a nice letter about taking better care of my rods. LOL.

Big price guys like G-Loomis have a fixed no questions asked policy. You
pay for that upfront from them when you shell four bills for a rod, and
there is a flat rate for the replacement.

Anyway. Let us know how Kistler is.

Shred,

Kistler makes a great rod, one that is lightweight and sensitive. However,
that light weight comes at a price. One of the ways weight is reduced is
decreasing the wall thickness of the blank. That, while making it
lightweight, also means that it's somewhat fragile as well.

I just looked at Kistler's warranty policy and while it seems a bit limited,
I wouldn't necessarily say you're screwed.

Thanks Bob.

Its a bit pricey compared to other rod manufacturers, but still better than
having to buy a new rod.

Heck, it's darned near $30 to send a rod U.S. Postal if you insure it.
Twenty plus shipping isn't bad. Sure, it would have been nice to have Trey
Kistler give a call and say, "Hey, I'm sending you a rod, no charge at all,
but ......"

G-Loomis is flat rate $20. (expensive rods) Lamiglas is flat rate $20.
(cheaper rods) St Croix is $20. (From mid to high price rods) Some of the
others were $16. Several others do not have a published return shipping
price in their written information, but none wanted that much for return
shipping. Shimano's warranty page doesn't say anythig about including
return shipping, but when I called them about a defective rod (broke when
flexing the rod before ever fishing with it) they told me to include $20 for
return shipping.

$50 is a lot more than any I had seen before. Like I said. Its still
cheaper than buying a new rod.

Looks like Shimano duped me. LOL.

Rods that are repaired or replaced by Shimano or Shimano Canada Ltd. / LTÉE
under the terms of this Limited Lifetime Warranty will be shipped back to
you with Shimano or Shimano Canada Ltd. / LTÉE paying the return shipping
charges.

Oh, well.
