You are probably technically correct, but Crappie have always been
called white perch here.

If you put 'Crappie White Perch' into any search engine you will find
lots of examples that they are used for the same fish,

I can't speak for other peoples' usage, but the white perch, along with
white bass and striped bass, is a member of the temperate bass family, which
are true bass, and is not the same as crappie.

Black bass (SM, LM, spotted, etc.) are actually members of the sunfish
family, as are the crappie species.
