Hi,
Just a quick question about a pike I caught yesterday.
I caught a pike that was about 3 feet long. As I have no scales, I have
no idea what it might have weighed. Would anyone be able to give a
rough
estimate as to its weight?
Andy.

Thanks Richard, thats a fascinating web site.
The table you reference unfortunately does no go small enough (!) for the
fish I caught, however in the section on pike lifespan I found the quote
"For example one fish which was tagged at a weight of 16.75lbs and with a
length of 36.5in was aged at 14 years." From that I would guess that the
fish I caught would have been somewhere around 15lb? Not bad considering I
was using my daughters 4 meter pole with 2lb line!
(Perhaps I should add that I had no intention of catching pike; We were
fishing for roach - the pike took one that we were pulling towards the
bank).
Andy.
Nice catch! It's often the case that pike, when not 'bullied', will come
in on light tackle.

Had quite a big one a few weeks ago (estimate around 20/25lb mark) that took
a roach I had just hooked. It decided to let me have a good look at it
before letting go of the roach on the surface. Took me about 10/15 minutes
to get it to the surface on my 4lb line (2lb hook length). I was using a
medium light feeder rod with a 1oz tip. Thought I had hooked a massive
bream at first. Good fun though.
