An iPad, while a fine tool for what it is made, is no substitute for a
Kindle (or Nook) when it comes to reading books. An iPad has a back lit
screen that tires the eyes of most readers after a while.
Dedicated ereaders like the Kindle or Nook have what are called eInk
screens. As Wolfgang described, it looks just like paper. You can read
it for hours without tiring your eyes any more than a book would.
Amazon.com has a brief but informative description.
