Opinions: Cortland Embassy Classic reels?

Anyone ever use Cortland's Embassy Classic reels? They're on sale a
couple of places, 50% off. I was in the process of buying an Orvis
CFO III (for my 5-weight), but these reels look similar, and at half
the price...?

Anyone know anything about these reels?

The CFO is a "more" classic reel and the new design looks interesting but
the embassy by all accounts is a solid reel.

Well, John Kerry doesn't...oh, wrong thread, sorry...

On a 5 weight, likely as not, the reel is more a line holder, and as such, it's
basically what you prefer. The Cortland stuff with which I am familiar is
decent enough gear, so if your preference is simply a decent reel at a good
price, then I'd say go for it.

On a 5 weight, likely as not, the reel is more a line holder, and as such, it's
basically what you prefer. The Cortland stuff with which I am familiar is
decent enough gear, so if your preference is simply a decent reel at a good
price, then I'd say go for it.

they didn't have much in-house metal fabricating capacity, and they hadn't
yet acquired the STH reel company, so they farmed out a lot of the
manufacturing process to the Harley Davidson plant in York Pa. At least that

That's interesting. I've lived in more or less close proximity to Harley
plants for most of my life and never knew that they made parts for anyone
else, let alone someone in an entirely different industry.

You should have been here summer of last year. On the last night of the
rally I could here them cruising the Lake Michigan shore, over seven miles
away......and this in an urban environment with no shortage of background
noise.
