Default Classic Contest

A little contest for all those attending and who can't attend the Southern
Classic on Okeechobee in April. The winner will recieve a $50 gift certificate
from Pro Bass Shops, courtsy of Moe's Guide Service. Much like the FLW or BASS
this will be a fantasy tournament. You will pick 5 angles from the Classic list
( Use the link to my site below and click on the Southern Classic). The winner
will be the contestent who's "team" finishes the highest in points. Ties will
be broken by total weight in pounds and ounces. First place angler will recieve
100 points, second 95 , third 90 and on down the list. Anyone may enter, but
you may enter only once. All entries must br recieved by April 15th ( Tax Day
LOL) . Any contestant not entered to fish by that date, but who fishes the
Classic, will not be counted and any entry sent in after the 15th will not be
valid.

Now for some insight on the anglers - as Moe sees it --- ROFL -- I haven't
included every angler and may add as the tournament approches. These are not my
picks, just some inside info for you.

1. Moe -- Now you might think this guy would be the favorite on his home lake,
but the idiot has spent the winter in NY. What kind of fool is this? Still. I
think he may catch a fish or two. If he doesn't drop into the guide mode, stays
away from the wine, women and song ( A heck of a singer I hear), he may be a
force to recken with. I don't think he will be on the top of his game for this
one, I hear he likes the bottom.

2. Steve Huber -- Another guide who may drop into that mode, heck he can't even
score on his home lake. Huber has been know to catch a fish or two ( he likes
throwing keepers back) but his preoccupation with the gators will get him in
trouble here. Look for Huber to finish well back in the pack.

3. Pat G -- A real sleeper and I do mean sleeper. Pat will fish his heart out
but snooze half the day away. Lunch may be Pats big downfall. The 12" limit
will benefit Pat this year, he gets to throw all those 5" er's back and have
his picture taken with a real fish.

4. Jerry B -- May be my pick as the overall winner if he stays sober. This old
boy can catch fish in a sewer drain, which explains why he hasn't scored to
well in past classics -- they are all on real lakes. Jerry has the patience to
fish slow, a sure winning presentation on Okee, but 3 cast in 2 hours?? Still,
if Jerry wiggles his worm just right we may see a new champ crowned.

5. Joe H -- If the spinnerbait bite is on, Joe will bring a ton of fish to the
scales. If not, Joe can fish soft plastics with the best. His past experience
on Okeechobee is a plus but don't count on him getting to the scales on time.
Send out Search and Rescue for Joe, he needs a new watch.

6. Sean B -- Sean will spend to much time chasing the Okee women around to be
much of a factor. A killer fishermen but the ladies man will do his last Tango
On Okee. If he does catch one of the local women, look for an early finish by
Sean.

7. Doc P -- The former Float Tube King and now Tin Boat King will do well on
his now "Home Lake". Wind may be his downfall in the little tin boat but don't
count him out and don't call him late for any meals. Doc will be an excellent
host and let others finish in front of him. Don't make him mad though, he can
turn in a second and lay a 10 pounder on you.

8. Dan D -- Dan spends way to much time greasing up his hair and all that
excess oil will spoil the bite for Dan. Look for Dan behind the camera and
behind the field. But wait, Dan could be a sleeper here too -- not

9. Jim L -- Another northern want-a-be, get a life Jim and for God's sake leave
that 4 pound test home. A great smallmouth fisherman will try his hand at some
true Okeechobee hogs. I know for a fact Jim may be the only angler that scares
me here -- you ever see him?

10. Warren W -- This is not Boom Lake, don't expect this excellent sight
fisherman to be skunked here. Warren's flipping abilities may well benefit him
here but the grass may be a factor. A one time Florida resident, he didn't have
enough sense to stay -- don't believe I said that -- but his memory is good and
unless his boat sinks he will be in the hunt. Look for Warren to try and kiss
Sean this year, I know he wants him.

11. Randy -- Randy is due, Randy is past due, Randy is Overdue, Randy is done.
Another story will be born.

12. Harry -- What can you say about Harry? An excellent fishermen who's time
has come --------- and went. I fully expect to see Harry with a daily limit at
the scales, to bad they are all Bluegill.

13. Charles S -- The catfish king will do well on Okee as the lake is full of
cats. Charles wants a hog so bad he can taste it. I think bacon may be his
downfall. And yes Charles, Roland does fish on the lake.

Well, that's all for now. I will add to my list as I go along. You decide who
the top 5 will be and good luck to all.

Default Classic Contest

Hey, we need to talk. I've got to get started on the plaque awards for the
Classic, so I'm going to need a list of what positions you're going to
recognize, such as, a 1st, 2nd, 3rd. each day, or just an overall 1st. 2nd.
3rd. and Big Fish? We need a "sponsor" listing on the website page. Maybe
contact Joe for the graphics of the sponsors from last year? I know we'll
have Little Bill's Trophy's and Dean Sellers Ford again, plus I'm bringing
in a huge net mfg. named "Ranger", and possibly a local tackle mfg. here to
supply us with a new type culling system. Any suggestions at this point
please let me know. Call me if you need...248-505-2902

Just out of curiosity Moe, what would you say for me if I can make it
down? Remember though that your opinion on this could carry alot of
weight on if I make it down or not? )

Well isn't this a classic example of
POT=KETTLE=BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't I get points for weighing in the biggest (not individual weight) limit
of women????????????
Although I may try for the money in the hog pot on this one too!!

Heck, it's the least I can do since he carried me into a first place team
finish last year, while contributing nothing to the team effort. Now mind
you (read MOE) that that is not an incentive for the rest of you to try to
pick my name from the hat!

I musta missed this the first time I read this... probably too lazy to
scroll. Here's my take on your picks Moe.

1. Moe -- I remember fishing with you on Center Hill. You'd already had
your limit and probably could have culled everyone you had in the livewell.
But... as a true fishing guide, you offered me everything you had after I
ran out of my trusty black and blue tubes, AND came up to the front of the
boat with me and did everything but set the hook for me. So, unless you draw
a competent angler to fish with... you'll be guiding for two days. That's
just the way you are.

2. Steve Huber -- Another guide. Yup... same thing applies to you Steve.
Just be sure you get on fish early in the day to fill your side of the
livewell. Steve also likes the toothy critters, but unfortunaltely the only
toothy critters in Okee is the gators... and Steve likes to chase them too.

3. Pat G -- Hmm... Pat could be that guy you don't really worry about until
you see him again at the weigh-in.

4. Jerry B -- This guy enjoys talking, and making you laugh your ass off
all day. When I fished with him on Center Hill, I had to wait until he was
chewing on something to catch a fish. The only time I was able to fish
instead of holding my laughing belly was in between bites of his sandwich.
He has however, been doing alot of research on Okeechobee, so he's not to be
ruled out entirely. I'm going to say that Jerry will probably have a good
year on this lake. He's also used to fishing big waters.

5. Joe H -- I've fished against Joe many times, and many times I've been
beaten. Mostly, with him fishing used waters behind me. Watch out for Joe...
and I'm not just saying this because he's my boss. No, this guy has few
baits that he carries with him and he knows how to use them. Ever heard the
old saying, "Be careful of the man with only one rod on deck"? Joe is this
kind of fisherman.

6. Sean B -- Are there any Walleye in Okeechobee?

7. Doc P -- Two words... Rim Canal. I expect that Doc's been concentrating
on the canals and is fairly familiar with them. If the fish are there...
he'll weigh-in a few nice ones.

8. Dan D -- Does Dan actually fish? Never seen him with a rod (fishing) in
his hands.

9. Jim L -- I already knows Jim's secrets... Cigars, and Senkos. Without
either one... he's no contest, but watch out when he's got both. Jim can
skip a Senko so far under the brush that you'd think that he'll never see
his bait again. That's true only when he latches on to a bass with that 4lb
line.

10. Warren W -- When Warren comes south of the Mason-Dixon line... Watch
out! Somehow, he manages to find a pattern quickly down here and it always
works well to his advantage. I'll place Warren in 2nd place though. (See
bottom for my 1st, 2nd, 3rd ratings)

11. Randy -- Randy isn't a problem as long as he's not fishing out of my
boat. I'd like to see how he does fishing with me though... I could use the
luck.

12. Harry -- Harry is the sleeper. He's learned very quickly and has the
confidence to win, and win big. He can also adapt to just about every
situation I can think of.

13. Charles S -- That's me! I think I'll probably be a little overwhelmed
by the size of the lake, and the amount of weeds. Remember, my primary
structure is rock, and I haven't seen any indication of rocks on my maps.
I've got a couple of areas that I'm planning on sitting on most of the day
if they look as good in person as they do on the map. I'll come up with a
back-up plan after I get there.

OK... I didn't see Ronnie Garrisons name on the list, so he's not on here
anywhere. But my run down for placing is as followed.

1st: Warren Wolk or Moe Conway: Without Ronnie, Warrens almost a gaurentee
win, but Moe may come in with a few hogs just to make us look real bad.

2nd: Joe Haubenreich or Moe Conway or Charles: DO NOT LET THESE GUYS FISH
TOGETHER.

3rd: Charles Summers or Randy Lisk or Harry: I've came close to first a few
times with these guys nipping at my heels. One of us three will take third;
I can almost bank on it.

OK... I didn't see Ronnie Garrisons name on the list,

I hate it, but I am gonna miss this one. My state Top Six is that same weekend
- I have to be at Eufaula on Sunday, the day after the Southern Classic. Tried
to figure a way to get back - drive all night Saturday night? - but I need to
practice at Eufaula some, too.

Really making me hate to miss the SC even more reading about it here - yall
are just gonna have to stop talking about it!

Good luck to all! I know you will have a great time.

Hate to hear that Ronnie, but it's about time you gave us poor fellas a
break! Now, if I can just get Wolk DQ'd for unsportsman-like conduct... I
may have a chance!

I hear he's been looking for live bait in the area too. LOL
