Do you use AOL Instant Messenger, or Yahoo IM, or MSN IM? and if you do
which ones?

My daughters do, and they tell me it is a great way to have a conversation
with several people all at once. I figure if anyone is doing it, I could
setup a IM account with somebody. But why do it if my buddies from the
group are not doing it.

I guess it would be like a fishing chat room, but with private messages.

Do NOT make the mistake of believing that IM provides any degree of
privacy.

The medium is easily preyed upon by hackers, as well as being an
effective way to spread viruses.

...and, be careful with your children using it. I make the anology of it
being like letting your kids stand on the street corner at midnight, with a
huge group of kids, having no idea what they're up to... I had a situation
develop with my daughter that caused me to remove it from the computers for
the last three years. They finally got it back this last fall... They're
15 and 16...

Yeah, my daughter thought I was terrible, but I felt better about it.

I agree with you completely Andrew!
With those programs, unless you set things correctly in their options
settings, you can also get popups from a VERY strange bunch or people,
wanting to know if your want to do so some VERY strange things!
I use MSN, AIM, and ICQ.
I think ICQ still has a place where you can set up a "group" thingy.
Maybe a ROFB Group would be fun!

I have AIM (seldom use) and ICQ (much better IMO) but I usually log on
to all through Trillian simultaneously. However, it is infrequent that
you will find me on.

ICQ UIN: 152083
AIM: rofb thundercat (I think)

OK, AOL MiBassAngler

Daughters 21, 16- They know how to use the computer and I know they are
pretty level headed kids.

I have multiple security schemes to prevent viruses.
