Default After work...

I stopped for a couple of hours today, on Boone's Fork on the Parkway. I
caught a 'bow--8 or so inches-- on my first cast with a parachute Adams.
Missed a couple after that and, finally, hooked in to a nice one in a small
deep dark pool, but he took it under a large rock and apparently rapped the
tippet around a twig. I got the fly back, full of leaf gunk, but didn't
find out the size or species? I continued to fish the parachute Adams, but
wasn't getting anymore hits.

I decided to tie on a traditional Adams that I had tied myself. I had tied
it on a #18 hook, but its proportions were more like a #16. I fish out the
rest of my time with that fly and did quite well. I caught a number of
browns on it and all were over 10 inches. I know 10 inch trout are scoffed
at out West and on the famous northern streams, but Boone's Fork on the
Parkway is a very small stream, so I'm tickled to catch anything over 6
inches. The section I fished today isn't too far from the stream's source
on Grandfather Mountain. The real nice thing is that I was the only one on
the stream this eve. A trail parallels the stream and is frequented by
daytrippers and hikers this time of the year, but apparently the darkening
skies had kept the tourrerists and Floridiot move-ins in-doors.

My last brown of the day was a good 14 inches or better, so I decided to
call it a day as the clouds were threatening. Ran into one helluva storm on
the way home. Lots of lightning and many drops the size of water balloons.

wow, man, that is one helluva fish up that far on boone's fork.

didn't it feel great when you first realized his size, and ain't it
nervous to the max every time it happens, up in those beautiful hills, in
the old north state?

wayno (well, of course, you ain't told us about the important things, like
length and brand of rod and leader, and size of the tippet, and the ****ing
knots they were all tied together with...)

heh heh heh tim..... ;-)

nahh, walt's been focusin' and fishin' his new home water this season....
the catawba river.... as i quipped to jeffie the other day.... "the poor
man's penns." it doesn't have the plethora and magnitude of penns creek
hatches, but it does have some strong hatches of caddis, stones, march
browns, and sulphurs..... and bwo's, lotsa small bwo's. big crawdads and
grampers are abundant..... all making a nice diet for the trout.

that is a cool stretch op.... one of my favorites.... glad it treated ya
well.

You are so right Handyman, on both accounts.

I had my MRI this eve and hope to here something by Monday. However, in the
meantime, I hope to meet up with Drew Patterson or Uncle Wally on the stream
this weekend.

I hope all is well with you and yours!

I love this part of the state and all of its trout streams, regardless of
size.

I'd rather have back surgery than give away sacred info on ROFF. However, I
will say that the only knot beyond the flyline worthy of my attention is the
blood-knot and that I use a 7X tippet with regularity.

Uncle Wally ain't no one's idiot, but like me, he is a move-in.

And, yes, anytime on a trout stream is a good time, unless you have been
submerged longer than 5 minutes.
