Default Fishing From A Kayak

Righty ho, the subject line gives the game away ! I haven't been
fishing
since I was a wee boy. I have a sea/touring kayak and would like to
fish
from it. The location would be Scottish coastal waters and Firths. I
reckon
the rod would have to be fairly compact or maybe one of those kids
orange
fishing lines.
There's a wreck a few hundred yards off shore which I am told attracts
cod,
though this may just be a fisherman's tale :-) I know the wreck is
there but
dunno about cod.
Any help on how to get started and what equipment to use would be
appreciated.
