That's great stuff, I read it here from someone who suggested it.
I applied Gink to just the body of the fly and very little of it too, even put some on the tippet. http://www.ezflyfish.com/ginkfloatant.html wanted to thank whoever suggested it. -tom |

But I know I should watch what I say...don't want the big bad wolf after me. -tom George Gehrke was a frequent poster here until he died about three or four years ago. To put it lightly, he was argumentative, and some of his less noble qualities often shined through in some of his roff posts, and posts to other groups as well. Shortly before his death, he went to one of the Western Claves and made his peace amongst many of the regulars here. I stopped using Gink for a season or three simply because I didn't want to support his endeavors... but nothing worked quite so well for me. Shortly after his death, I was having a miserable trip in the Catskills, at least from the point of view of whether I was catching fish or not (I wasn't). I tossed the POS floatant I had been using, and bought me some Gink. I allowed this to happen partly because he made his peace with some, and because I had no reason not to support his wife's endeavors, as she is, by many accounts, a lovely person. The first fish I caught after this was an irascible old brown with a big scar down his side. I thought of George. The rest of the trip, I caught plenty. Interestingly enough, Gink.com is still up, and still offering Bamboo fly rods, (though "*******" doesn't appear anyplace) -- Scott Reverse name to reply |

I found that other floatants and plain old muslin (sp) works just as well for me. I gathered up a bunch of those ubiquitous desiccant packets, ground the pellets up in a coffee grinder, and use it like frog fanny. Though the powder isn't near as refined as frogs fanny, it works just the same for me. My flyz float at any rate? Op |

To get the slightest of tastes (and without having to disenterre it all here), go to roff on Google groups, http://groups.google.com/group/rec.o....fly?lnk=gschg and search on HWMNBN. - JR |

I still don't know if I buy the Abolene Hand Cream business, as I was in a department store once, and the version on the counter didn't look quite like Gink, didn't smell like it (it had a fragrance, Gink does not), and didn't feel like it, but YMMV. I still use it today, but I haven't had to buy a bottle in over 10 years, and probably won't have to for some time. And say what you will about George, one thing he was, was entertaining. And honestly, what he was like in ROFF, was not one bit different from himself in person. Skwala |

See the 'Albolene revisited' thread for more info. G*nk is a well known fly floatant made by a man who used to infect this newsgroup. A worse businessman there never was. He would come here and insult and harass people endlessly. Many people here decided to never correspond with this individual or use his products - he is now usually called HWNMNBM or HWMNBN (he whose name must not be mentioned, he who must not be named). One enterprising regular set up a server called g*inkst*nks.org (which seems to be offline at the moment?)." ************************************************** ********************************** I withheld that name of the above poster, though their name is public record. Skwala Gink, Muslin, silicone this and that all waste of money ![]() use a small bottle of camp fuel (aka naptha) and parafin wax. The wax dissolves in the fuel and when applied to a fly, the fuel evaporates leaving the wax thinly deposited on the fly. You can also use a few drops to help start a fire ![]() your fly floating all day, at least until a salmon rises and pulls it under. But then I don't mind having to dry it off after the fight is over ![]() -- Panzer |
