I have been fishing some home made chatter baits in fairly heavy cover
and am picking up quite a few fish. I let it sink to the bottom and then pop it up enough to make it chatter and then let it fall again. If I hit a limb on the way up I frequently get a strike. Pretty fun stuff. The reason I mention that it is home made is that all of the store bought ones I have don't come with a fiber hook guard. A friend of mine bought 100 stamped out blades and all you need is a split ring and fast lock snap and you can become a chatter bait maker. One other thing is that you also need is a jig were the eye is turned horizontally. This allows you to use one splti ring between the jig and the blade. It fishes a lot like fishing a spinner bait off the bottom, but weedless. Anyway, just passing along a little something you might want to try. |
