What type of conditions were you fishing?

Default Chatter Bait

Randy and I were on a small lake with very clear water and an island in the
middle. He took all his bass off the island (where it drops from 1 to 4 feet
right off the bank) with a chatterbait and I hit one with a shallow running
craw pattern crankbait.

It was clear and in the 60's as I remember and the water was in the mid 50's

I'm sure his story is totally different, but that's how it always is with
us.

Default Chatter Bait

After seeing all the posts about the chatterbaits I tried to locate them
here in the Phoenix area .None to be had !!! The salesman at Sportsman's
Warehouse said he tried to get them but because the maker is working from
his garage they could not order them . The problem according to him is that
there isn't enough supply to meet demand until the maker goes to a mass
production system . He did say he wound up ordering a couple from the web
for his own use and had a major problem with them as he would get good
strikes but reel in only a small portion of the chatterbait after the good
strikes . This leads me to ask if it is worth my while on a limited budget
to invest in ordering some online, or will I be throwing money away on a
bait that is going to fall apart if I get any action with it ??

Fall apart? How could a chatterbait fall apart? It's all metal...

Not on the real deal, but on some of the copies (most use a split ring
to connect the blade to a 'flat eye' jig hook, but some attach the blade
directly to the hook eye by opening it a hair before putting it in the
jig mold. The real chatter bait uses a small wire link molded into the
head. The copoes (at least none that I know of) don't. They are either
the split ring variation or the 'pried open hook' variation. The latter
is very prone to failure. Try and open, then reclose the tying eye on a
dozen jig head, then see how many of them break with very little stress.

I bought six of the originals from Gander Mt. (Erie, PA) on Saturday. As
soon as I can try them I'll post it here. Doc
